Regional Workshop: Climate Change & the Caribbean Tourism Sector, 18 – 19 March 2008, The Bahamas

CTO/CRSTDP is pleased to announce an upcoming Regional Workshop on the most pertinent issue of Climate Change and the Caribbean Tourism sector. The Government of The Bahamas, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation, is kindly hosting the event, which takes place on 18th – 19th March at Wyndham Nassau Resort.

Research carried out in the CTO/CRSTDP project The International Policy and Market Response to Global Warming and the Challenges and Opportunities that Climate Change Issues Present for the Caribbean Tourism Sector forms the backbone of the workshop, which will be lead by the project consultant, Dr Murray Simpson of Oxford University.

This two day workshop has a triple objective:
1. To provide key players in the Caribbean tourism sector with concise information on developments in the international policy response to global warming;
2. Secondly to lead participants in a review of how the Caribbean tourism sector is likely to be impacted by new policy directions and changing consumer behaviour in source markets;
3. Thirdly, to identify areas where stakeholders in the tourism value chain, at the national and regional, can seek to gain advantage from the climate change debate.

The target group for the workshop includes national organisations with tourism competence, and regional organisations working in related fields. Additional information on the programme, registration form and hotel details will be made public in the near future.
